Shark's Teeth and More Dock Lounging

Tuesday of our vacation was pretty low key. We went down to the Sands of Port Royal to look for shark's teeth. We went down during low tide because that is the best time to find them or just as the tide is coming back in. After that, we stopped and picked up some fresh shrimp for Frogmore Stew, which we didn't end up making until the next night because we wanted our friend, Chris to join us for dinner. So, more on Frogmore Stew in my next post! The place where we bought the shrimp just happened to be right next to Alvin Ord's sandwich shop. I hadn't had Alvin Ord's since we lived down there, so it had been at least 14 years! So, we couldn't resist and it was every bit as good as I remembered! Next, we swung by Steve's mom and dad's and visited with them for awhile. We ended up bringing my niece, Makaylia back with us to the cottage to hang out for awhile. Makaylia had been staying with Steve's mom and dad for awhile and was going to be leaving to go back to California on Friday. The remainder of the day was spend on the dock. There was a great breeze and a gorgeous sunset. We stayed down there until the storm ran us back to the house. And it was one heck of a storm! Yikes!

Bry and I- the wind and humidity was really cruel to us curly hair girls!

I snuck a pic of Jordan!

There are a lot of oyster shells here, so walking in the water with no shoes on isn't even an option! Those suckers will cut you right open!

Here are a few of the teeth that they found. I didn't get a total count because everyone had their own bottles and they sure weren't going to let us mix them together for a pic!

Finally Some Vacation Pics!

I am behind- really behind. We have been home from vacation for a month now and I am just getting around to getting some pics posted. But in my defense, right after we got back, my sis-in-law and nephews were in town, we had to get the kids ready for school, plus there's that pesky thing called work... Anyway, we had another wonderful trip to Beaufort, SC. Sad, that once again Steve wasn't able to get off of work. One of these days, he will be able to get down there again with us. But we met up with some great friends and family, went to the beach, went to Savannah, did some site seeing, and did a whole lot of lounging on the dock. Here are some pics from our first few days. And once again, you will see there aren't a whole lot of pics of Jordan. That is because he is a turd! He turns his head everytime I get the camera out and holds his hand in front of his face. Even though his great aunt and great grandma have told him how much they enjoy the pics I post. This is their way of keeping up with the kids. He did soften after that and let me get a few. But even I didn't realize how much the family enjoys the pics I post. Modern technology is so great with keeping touch with our loved ones that live far away! So, this is for you all! :)
We always get a pic at the South Carolina Welcome Center. My kids are goofy!
Bry didn't even unpack before she parked her butt in a chair on the dock!
My dear friend, Stacy and 3 of her boys drove over from Georgia to meet up with us. Well us and her brother who also lives in Beaufort. We have gotten to see each other twice in one year after going 12 years without seeing each other! We met them for dinner right after we got in on Saturday night. And then we met them for breakfast on Sunday before they headed back home. It was a short, but definitely sweet visit. As always with Stacy, the visit was full of laughs.
My  mom, Stacy and I at Ihop before they headed out.

After breakfast, we headed back up to the cottage to spend the rest of the day on the dock. The guys fished, the girls lounged. And took pics.
Bry had to go down to get a pic of the stingray that Ricky caught.
We snapped a few pics, then set him free.
Monday we went exploring at the old Fort Fremont on St. Helena Island. Read about Fort Fremont here http://www.sciway.net/hist/fort-fremont-st-helena-island.html.  It is said to be haunted. In fact, it used to be the place that we went when we wanted to scare ourselves during our teenage years. And after that, you parked up the road and waited to see the Land's End Light. I never saw anything, but it sure was fun trying! I guess back then we were trespassing, but they have cleaned the place up and opened it to the public since then. So, we were there legally!

Bry was kinda creeped out. Jordan kept scaring her....
Closer to the door brought on a smile...

After we left the fort, we stopped at the Chapel of Ease.Read about the Chapel of Ease here http://www.sciway.net/sc-photos/beaufort-county/chapel-of-ease.html. I love the old ruins of this church. The mosquitoes and the sand gnats, not so much. They were eating us alive! But I did get a few pics.

After we left the chapel of Ease, we headed to Savannah to have a cookout with a couple of my sis-in-laws, niece and nephews. A lot of the family has moved in the past year, so we didn't get to have as many of the cousins together as we have in the past. It was fun catching up. Those girls are always a hoot! We got one pic of the kids. Here it is!
My three are standing up. On the couch from left to right-Joseph, Ashton and Destanie. I know one thing, the Sullivan's sure make some pretty kids! :)
And that is it for now. That is only a few days worth of pics! Plenty more to come!

And So Begins The Year Of Lasts....

Tuesday was the first day of school. Bry started her senior year. Jordan is a sophomore and Dusty headed out to the jr.-sr. High school as a big 7th grader. It's been a long time since all 3 kids have been in the same school. I know this will be a year full of "lasts". Last back to school pics, last school musical, last choir concert, last prom, last tennis match....this list goes on and on! I hope this year goes by very slow. I'm just not ready for Bry to graduate and head off to college.

One last pic of Bryson! I haven't cried yet, but I know this year will bring many tears!

Oh, and we did get back from our South Carolina vacation 3 weeks ago. I will at some point get those pics posted. Probably once I can wrangle the laptop from Jordan since we downloaded the pics from all of the cameras on it!

Happy 18th Birthday Bryson Renee!!!

Wow!!! My little firecracker baby is 18 today! Time sure flies! Now if you would have told me 18 years ago when I had a screaming and I mean- SCREAMING baby girl on my hands, that time flies, I never would have believed you. For those of you that know my Bry, you may be a little surprised to hear that she came into this world like an angry, category 5 hurricane. She had colic and from 10pm to 1am every night and 6am to 8am every morning, she cried. And cried. And cried. And I cried. And cried. And cried! I really thought I would NEVER sleep again and I had sentenced myself to a life of screaming! I know, a little dramatic, but I am telling you, those nights seemed to go on FOREVER! Sometimes laying her on Steve's chest, if she would be quiet enough to hear his heartbeat, she would calm down. But he had to be up at 5am to go to work, so even if he could get her calmed down during the 10pm-1am stretch, he wasn't there for the next round! And I would be lying if I didn't say that in my inexperienced, sleep deprived, totally stressed out state, there were nights when I just wanted to put her back where she came from! But, then we would pass that 8am mark, she would take a little nap and I would take a little nap. And when she woke up, she was my cute little adorable baby again. We would have a good day, but then 10pm would roll back around and the little monster baby re-appeared. Thank goodness this only went on for a few months! It was like one day the clouds parted, the hurricane went back out to sea, a rainbow and sunshine appeared and it's stayed this way ever since! With the exception of a few temper tantrums as a toddler, she has been complete sunshine. And this is the Bry that the world knows. The happy, bouncy, smiley, full of life Bry! As the teen years were approaching, I started to prepare myself for that hurricane to come barreling back to shore, but it never did. No exaggeration- we have only had 1 slammed door during her teenage years and it about broke Steve's heart. Slamming doors were daily routine in my teen years! I know my dad was hoping she would be his revenge on me for my teenage years. Sorry Dad! I guess, I do need to add, that 99.9% of the time her room does look like a hurricane went through it. But, it's really her only flaw, so I can just keep the door shut!

Once she started school, I realized how fast time really does fly. At a super fast speed of light! It is so hard to believe that Steve and I are the parents of an adult! She can vote this year! And do things without our permission. Just remember Bry-Tattoos are forever! And I know you have expressed an interest for one, so just do me this one favor- think carefully about what you get and where you get it. A Spongebob tattoo on your ankle 20 years from now would look pretty stupid! :) We love you Bryson Renee! We are so blessed to have you in our lives. I have a feeling, this next year is going to be full of tears because I am sooo not ready for you to graduate and head to college! Always remember this- no matter what you do in this world, never let anyone keep you from being YOU, because you are pretty great!

Here's my video for my beautiful girl. And Bry should be very proud of me! I did it all by myself. She normally helps me, but she was at camp. Mama figured it out! Well.... after Dusty showed me how to download the songs! The first song, I used to sing to her when I was trying to get her to sleep. Hmmmm, maybe that was the reason for the colic? Hindsight is always 20/20! The 2nd song is just sooo Bry! FYI- I was planning to use "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw, but after I downloaded it, I listened to it, burst into tears and knew there was no way I could put it to pictures! Yep, gonna be a tearful next year!

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. Please take time out of your day to reflect and remember what this day is about. Whether it's just simply saying a prayer for our men and women in uniform, past, present and future. Whether it's visiting your local cemetery to pay your respects to those who served and are no longer with us.Or if you get the opportunity, thank a Veteran personally. However you choose to do it, just remember it is because of these brave men and women, that you get to enjoy your BBQ's, beach time, lake time, etc. today.

This has been posted a few times and I have intended to make a new one, but I haven't been able to find a song quite as fitting as this one.Special thanks goes out to my grandfathers, dad, brothers, cousins, friends! It is a privilege to have been brought up in a family with such strong a military background!

Goodbye Elementary School! Hello Junior High!

My baby, my youngest child graduated from sixth grade last night. My gosh, time has flown by! He made out like a bandit when it came to the awards. He ended up with 8 total, including the President's award for academic excellence, computer award, academic achievement award (for being on the honor roll all four semesters), artist of the year (only 2 were given out) and a few others. I hate to brag, but I was one proud mama! And it is starting to make sense as to why he is constantly kicking my ass in Words With Friends and Drawsomething! I think he may be smarter than me and certainly draws better than me! I thought I might be sad to watch him move on, but if you know my Dusty, he has seemed grown since he was like 2! I swear that kid was never a baby. He came out of the womb talking! And hasn't stopped since. Plus, he is now taller than me. Hard to think of him as a baby when he is taller than me! Way to go D! Dad and I are sooo proud of you!

Displaying some awards
Fist pic we took with him was blurry, so Mr. Anti-Camera has a fine look for the camera!

Can't believe we are doing this already!
Love him!
One more- As I said, I was proud!
